Any animal, live plant, product or sub-product of animal or vegetable origin, in order to enter the country, must be accompanied by a corresponding sanitary or phytosanitary certificate issued by the health authorities or Ministry of Agriculture of the country of origin.

What biological products are prohibited from entering Panama?

Panamanian law prohibits the entry of products and derivatives of cloven-hoofed animals originating from countries affected by the Foot and Mouth Disease virus.

 

Below is the list of products that are prohibited due to this disease:

  • Refrigerated or frozen meat of ruminants
  • Biological material from susceptible animals
  • Refrigerated or frozen pork
  • Extracts and secretions of ruminants and pigs
  • Semen of ruminants and pigs
  • Raw wool, hair and bristles
  • Fresh hides, raw or tanned
  • Fresh milk (fluid)
  • Viscera for human consumption
  • Fresh cheese
  • Viscera for industrial use
  • Meat and bone meal
  • Tendons
  • Pasteurized milk
  • Collagenous material
  • Industrial fat of ruminants and pigs
  • Untreated bones, horns and skull
  • Cured or cooked meats
  • Blood meal
  • Powdered milk
  • Albumin of blood
  • Butter
  • Intestines
  • Butterfat
  • Organs of susceptible animals
  • Casein and caseinates
  • Glands
  • Lactose
  • Bilis (liquid and dried)
