A team of researchers has unearthed fossilized remains of caimans, a reptile in the alligator family, in Panamanian rocks dated over 19 million years old, according to an article published yesterday in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.

The emergence of the isthmus of Panama some 2.6 million years ago formed a land bridge which, according to scientists, was crucial for the interchange of animals between North and South America.

Construction on the viaduct over Los Mártires Avenue, which costs $76,540,000 and is being run by the company Conalvías, is 94% completed, with the date for final delivery set for April 15th.

The supply of new hotel rooms in the capital city will not stop mushrooming in 2013, placing further pressure on the hotel industry, which reported a 10% drop in occupancy levels in 2012 compared to 2011.

The former mayor of New York, Rudolph Giuliani, will visit Panama City in mid-May as a guest keynote speaker on 'Building a secure society' at the opening event of the International Security Fair (FISEG Panama) to be held in ATLAPA.

Giuliani was hired by the Panamanian group Heavencorp, the company organizing  Panama FISEG, which will assemble the leading manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and end users of equipment and solutions for physical, electronic, computer, banking and transportation security, as well as emergency disaster relief, industrial safety, occupational health and environmental protection.
