About 45 people become nationalized each month

So far this year, some 792 foreigners have been sworn in as Panamanians

At the end of each month, the Government of Panama swears in approximately 45 people who become residents of the Republic.

Last Thursday, June 28 was the most recent of these days. Around 43 people were sworn in as Panamanians, and the Minister of the Government, Jorge Ricardo Fabrega, and the Ambassador of Colombia, Ángela María Benedetti Villaneda, served as witnesses.

The most recent swearing included 15 Colombians and 15 Chinese. Citizens of those two countries are generally those who tend to acquire the Panamanian nationality, according to statistics from the Interior.

Others who are also benefiting from this measure are those born in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Ukraine and Thailand.

NATIONALIZED ANNUALLY

So far this year about 792 people have been sworn in, according to Eva Samudio, from the Disclosure Department of the Interior.

In 2011, 559 people of various nationalities adopted the Panamanian nationality.

Taking into consideration the country of birth or origin, the person can seek to obtain both nationalities, as long as it is permissible according to the current laws in their country of origin.
