Big Island

Big Island is a picturesque tropical paradise, surrounded by beautiful coral reefs and white sandy beaches with palm trees. The main beach on the island is called La Punta. There tourists can enjoy various entertainment options in the sun, such as swimming, sunbathing, relaxing, visiting the mangroves near the coast or taking a boat tour around the island.

You can also walk around the island to go see the northern islands or hike to the lighthouse and enjoy the incredible view from above. But the biggest attraction is the underwater world, with its large population of fish that delight divers.

Location:

located northwest of Panama City in the Caribbean Sea. With an area of 61 km², it is the biggest island in the province of Bocas del Toro and the fourth largest in the country.

How to arrive?

Car: Take the Panama-Colon highway until the town of Chilibre. Then take the Transístmica highway towards the city of Colón, and when you reach Sabanitas, turn right and follow the road as if you were going to Portobelo. There is just a small sign at the entrance and is easy to miss. Look for a Rey supermarket on the right, and the entrance is just after it. When you arrive in Portobelo, follow the road and take a left at the fork to go towards La Guayra. Arriving at La Guayra, there are several places to park the car, and then board a boat to take you to the island.

Bus: From the Albrook terminal, take the bus to the city of Colón and get off at Sabanitas (known for the Rey supermarket), before reaching Colón. From there, transfer to a bus to La Guaira, and from there board a boat that will take you to the island.
