10 years of jazz

In 2013, the Panama Jazz Festival will celebrate its first decade.

The concerts, musical auditions, lectures and cultural workshops will be held next January 14 to 19 in the capital city, as announced yesterday by Danilo Perez, the artistic director and founder of the festival, at a press conference.

With much enthusiasm, the Panamanian pianist named the guest list for the tenth anniversary: Susana Baca, Bill Frisell, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.

Danilo underscored that more than 300 groups are waiting to be called to join the festival, and praised the international quality and experience of each of the artists that will enliven the activity, to be held simultaneously in the City of Knowledge, Anayansi Theater and Hotel El Panama.

The organization has decided to call this set of sites the Jazz Route.

On January 16, 17 and 18, the gala concerts will be on the stage at Anayansi Theatre. Hotel El Panama will host the jam sessions every night. The evening concerts, auditions and educational workshops from January 14 to 18 will be at the City of Knowledge, the place selected for the closing show, which has thus far been held in the Cathedral Square, San Felipe.
