Tourist arrival increased by 6.4%

Between January and August, there was na entry of 999 thousand 651 tourists through the Tocumen International Airport, while at Paso Canoa 110 thousand 311 tourists entered.

Panama has received more tourists as compared to last year. In the first eight months of the year, it was registered the entry of 1 million 390 thousand visitors, representing an increase of 6.4% over the period of 2011.

Panama and Costa Rica are the countries of Central America with the largest increases in visitor’s arrivals, an increase of over 6%, while the rest of the nations reports an increase between 2% and 4% in 2012.

As for currencies, that is the amount of money spent by tourists in the country, it is estimated that between January and August, it reached 1 thousand 491 million dollars.

According to estimatives of the General Controller, the tourists left in the country over 237.8 million, as compared to what they spent in the same period of time in 2011.

Through Tocumen International Airport 999 thousand 651 tourists entered, while through Paso Canoa 110 thousand 311 tourists.

If this pace is kept during the second half of the year, officials estimated that 2012 will close with the arrival of 2.2 million visitors.

Despite the increase,the hotel occupancy in the capital city continues in the red, with a decrease of 7%, with the small hotels with a maximum of 100 rooms, the most affected.
