Festival ends in Chitré

164TH ANNIVERSARY

A folkloric parade finalized the celebration of the 164th anniversary of the district of Chitré.

The parade began at one in the afternoon with a grand display of antique cars and motorcycles.

Although the parade was very colorful and showed the regional folklore, many observers were displeased at having to wait long periods of time between each float.

Rain also threatened to damper the celebration, but it turned out to be just sprinkles and did not affect the festival.

Figures such as minister Guillermo Ferrufino and Milton Henríquez, president of the Popular Party, also enjoyed the festivities.

The queens from different regions of Herrera and Los Santos participated; among them were Astrid Carolina Tejada, Queen of the Carnival of the Street Above in Las Tablas 2012, and Jennys Flowers, Queen of the Manito Festival in Ocú.

The parade lasted well into the night. Queens of the five districts lit up the city and enthused the crowd to the beat of drums and melody of accordions, proving that it was worth waiting a while.
