Panamanian culture brought to Lima, Peru

'THE ART OF MAKING MOLAS'

In a display of Panamanian culture offered by the Embassy of Panama in Peru, the Panamanian Lois Iglesias, wearing traditional Guna clothing, lectured on 'The Art of Making Molas,' as part of the celebration of the 109th anniversary of Panama's separation from Colombia.

Lois, a Guna Yala native who collaborates with the National Institute of Culture (INAC), also explained the labor involved for a collection of 25 mola, or double-embroidered cloth designs, which were on exhibit as part of the cultural show. In the event, Nazareth Odas and Carlos Trujillo, Panamanian cadets of the Peruvian National Police, danced the Panamanian folkloric dance el punto, while decked out in the traditional costumes of pollera skirt and white shirt.

This activity was attended by government ministers, congressmen, diplomats accredited in Peru, business executives, Panamanians and reporters from renowned media sources.
