Development by companies from Spain

The Spanish Minister of Development, Ana Pastor, today began a two-day visit to Brazil to emphasize the interest of Spanish companies in the infrastructure and transportation projects that the South American giant will undertake in the coming years.

Afterwards, the tour will bring her to Panama, where this Wednesday and Thursday she will inspect work on the first Metro line and the Panama Canal expansion, accompanied by the president, Ricardo Martinelli.

It is noteworthy that Spanish companies are participating in both projects, FCC and Sacyr, respectively. The country has additional companies present from Spain, such as Fenosa Gas and BBVA Bank, among others.

Last October, the princes of Asturias Felipe and Letizia visited Panama as well.

Spain's direct investment in Panama amounts to $3 billion, with contracted construction projects valued at around $5 billion. Spanish firms generate approximately 15,000 direct jobs in the local market.

With unemployment reaching 25% as a result of the crisis the Iberian nation is undergoing, many investors are considering Panama as an option.
