Panama could commercialize diamonds

Panama was admitted as a participating country in the Kimberley Process Certification System (KPCS), which places the country in the position of a hub to potentially sell rough diamonds, in order to take advantage of its geographical position, connectivity and legal and financial stability within all of Latin America.

The formal presentation of Panama's application for accession to the Kimberley Process was made by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ricardo Quijano, who traveled to Washington D.C. in the U.S.

Quijano said that this is a government achievement, thanks to "the coordinated teamwork of an interagency group made up of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, National Customs Authority and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
