Santa María traveling to villages in Darién

The image of Santa María la Antigua, known as the "Pilgrim Virgin", has been in Metetí in the province of Darién since Saturday, December 29, and will stay there until January 3.

The apostolic vicar of Darién, Pedro Hernández, reported that the image will later be moved to Santa Fe, to then travel to the congregation at Agua Fría and finally to the province of Colón.

“We are overjoyed”, said Hernández, “because the pilgrim Virgin, who came from Rome, is touring Darien, and we are pleased by the reception that she has received in all of the religious regions she has visited.”

Pablo Vargas, commissioner of the National Border Service, who is providing security for the trips of this icon of the Catholic faith, said that the image arrived in a National Air Service plane at the diocese of Jaqué and Garachiné in Panama, and then traveled by boat to Sambú, La Palma, El Real and Yaviza.
