Ricardo Quijano, Minister of Commerce and Industry, said that the genres slotted for production range from horror and suspense to reality shows and documentaries. He also announced that the producer Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock, will produce a reality TV show called “The Hero”, with the involvement of the local production company Panama Films. The series plans to film on locations in Panama with totally extreme panorama shots, views of the Panama Canal, tunnels and towering buildings.
In other production news, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, José Pacheco, announced that the second Film Festival in Panama will be held in April, with 60 movies and government support on the order of $1.2 million. The first festival was a great success, and placed the country on the international map of the film industry, with screenings of films from Spain and India.
