Over 11,000 Panamanians from all over the country pulled out their polleras to participate in more than 100 organized groups in the parade, which also included floats and street musicians and was supported by the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP).
This event attracted the attention of all national media and many international groups, who reported for television, websites and newspapers. The major national television media had a live broadcast of this cultural event, which demonstrates the importance of the national costume for all Panamanians.
In other media coverage, every national newspaper graced their covers on Sunday, January 13 with photographs and reports related to this event, which was attended by the President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli and his wife Marta de Martinelli.
The ATP Marketing Department views the Parade of a Thousand Polleras as an event that generates a large impact on all the productive sectors of the Azuero region. Gas stations, restaurants, artisans, hotels, stores and bakeries all benefited from the massive influx of tourists who enjoyed the parade.
