Canadians interested in melons

Yesterday a group of Canadians visited different melon crops in the province of Los Santos, showing their interest in exporting this product to Canada.

Edgardo Carriel from the COD FRESH company said that Panamanian crops have much potential, and are specifically interested in exporting melons, however, this will not be a possibility until next year since this season's harvest is already committed.

Alexis Bravo, president of the Nontraditional Agro-exporters of Panama union, said that in the period from 2011 to 2012, some Panamanian companies underwent many problems with the product.

Irma Chong, National Director of Exports in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI), indicated that the institution promotes business alliances, so that these foreign companies interested in Panamanian product may invest alongside regional growers.
