Thousand Polleras Parade will receive its regulation this month

Before January 31, the bill that seeks to raise the status of the Parade of a Thousand Polleras to law will be presented to the plenary of the National Assembly. This document is now being prepared by the organizing committee of the event, led by government deputy Carlos "Tito" Afú.

One of the articles will establish the creation of a board to seek sponsorship from private companies, to complement the $150,000 currently provided by the government, an amount that could increase. The bill will also consider decreeing that the second Saturday of every January will be the date for the Parade of a Thousand Polleras. The only garment permitted to be worn in the parade is the traditional dress, the pollera.

In addition, no political flags of any party, nor cars, will be accepted, since anyone who wishes to participate in the parade must use a float. Next year, the parade that showcases Panamanian culture will be held on Saturday, January 11, starting at 4:00 p.m. There are currently 106 delegations from different provinces that attend this showy parade. The committee has 11,520 polleras, as explained by Deputy Afú.
