Grand finale for festival attended by half a million Carnival-goers

On the last day of the festivities of Carnival of the City 'Discovery' on Tuesday, the Coastal Strip held nearly 500,000 people.

In front of the ocean and surrounded by skyscrapers, this space used for the five-day carnival was filled on Tuesday night, as crowds gathered along the parade route. On the Main Stage, local musicians and guest international artists Wisin and Yandell sang for the enthused crowds, while thousands of dancers performed on the Remembrance Stage.

Among other highlights of Carnival in the capital city, the beauty of queen Virginia and her princesses Nabil and Rocío shone as they headed up the parade in a giant float alluding to the V Centenary of the Discovery of the South Sea. In total there were 32 floats in the four days of Carnival, along with performing groups in the parades and cheerful culecos during the day, which were also attended by thousands of people.

Merchants of 100 fixed stands and 50 carts benefited from extended sales until the festival closed at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday of Carnival.

The Carnival of the City set in place a successful model and established itself as a great attraction, bringing in 25,000 tourists. By early morning of Ash Wednesday, traffic on the Coastal Strip had returned to normal.
