Chaplin and Verdú will come to IFF Panama in April

“The actresses Geraldine Chaplin and Maribel Verdú are confirmed,” Pituka Ortega, director of the Panama International Film Festival, announced to the media group AFP. The event will be held from April 11 to 17 with the screening of 60 films from 35 countries.

“We are truly very proud and honored that both actresses will come to Panama. To say that we are happy is an understatement,” commented Ortega.

Chaplin, 68 years old, will be honored for her acting career of over fifty films, of which the most well-known are Doctor Zhivago (1965), Nashville (1975), Breeding Ravens (1976), Chaplin (1993), Talk to Her (2002), and The Orphanage (2007). The daughter of film legend Charlie Chaplin won the 2002 Goya Award for Best Supporting Actress for his role in 'Talk to Her' by Pedro Almodóvar. She was thrice nominated for the Golden Globe Awards and once for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award.

Verdú, at age 42, has won two Goya awards for Best Actress in Snow White (2012) and Seven French Billiard Tables (2007), along with the Gold Medal of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain. Verdú has acted in more than 60 plays and movies, including the stand-out film of Pan's Labyrinth (2006), directed by Guillermo del Toro.
