Maps built with tourism data

This week also starts the distribution of maps regarding the agrotourism properties that are already operational in the country and which add up to 100.

The 26 tourism destinations identified in the tourism master plan (2007-2020) already count with maps that contain the detailed information of their appeal for investment. The maps will be available at the offices of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) located throughout the country and will allow the sustainable development of the tourism areas.

Besides the tourism information, the maps also include the types of development that can be performed in each area. Jaime Cornejo, Master Plan’s coordinator, pointed out that the material is also available in digital format, and explained that the upload of said information into the institution’s webpage, is being analyzed.

For a better development, the country was divided in eight (8) touristic regions, among which 26 destinations were identified: the Pacific beach area, Bocas del Toro, Panama, Colon and the Azuero area. By 2011, 2.3 million dollars were assigned to develop infrastructure projects that are being included within the tourism master plan, and by 2012 a similar figure has been assigned. This week also starts the distribution of maps regarding the agrotourism properties that are already operational in the country and which add up to 100.

Chiriquí, Panama Oeste, Coclé and Veraguas are some of the places where there are greater properties for development. Another map will also be designed for the area of La Chorrera, where 25 agrotourism properties are in operation. The tourism’s master plan coordinator added that once the information of the agrotourism properties is completed, the process to design a map regarding the small hotels that operate in the country will initiate.
