Thousand Pollera Parade, November 27, 2011

Pollera: a gaily colored costume worn by women during fiestas in Latin-American countries.

The 3rd Annual Thousand Pollera Parade is significantly celebrated during the Patriotic Holidays. During last year’s celebration, one thousand women in full costume were expected to participate. However, according to statistics, there were over 5,000 participants.

This show is amazing, full of colorful costumes. It proudly presents the finest of Panama’s dressmaking, which includes the very delicate and complicated embroidery techniques: Polleras marcadas en cruz, artesanales polleras zurcidas, caladas polleras sombreadas, populares polleritas montunas, polleras blancas de lindas novias. These techniques are also used to embellish the following accessories: laces, oval and straight cut-off large size combs, shawls, threaded petticoats, scrim princess type shoes, and sophisticated hand fans for sexy ladies.

It is Panama’s folkloric costume. It is the fiesta of the Panamanian people. It is the Thousand Pollera Parade. And it is a folkloric mark in the tradition of a country which makes history.
