Playa Leona Presents a Newly Remodeled Facet

Playa Leona, a picturesque, newly remodeled tourist site, is located 30 minutes away from downtown La Chorrera District and less than an hour away from Panama City. Most of Playa Leona’s population bases their economy on small-scale fisheries, agriculture, and animal husbandry. For many years, it was an ordeal to travel to Playa Leona due to the bad conditions of its roads. Nowadays, however, all its neighbors enjoy a newly constructed road from Nicolas A. Solano Hospital to the coast.

The new road represents a strong tourism potential, as near Playa Leona, tourists can find an islet called Isla Verde (Green Island). At this place, fishermen often explore, along with groups of tourists, the crystal clear waters and beautiful natural environment. The name of this tourist place, Playa Leona, is derived from one of the first founders’ name, Leonarda Padilla, whose house was near the beach and the residents would identify the place with her name.

Most of Playa Leona’s population, inhabited by immigrants from all the provinces, predominantly from Santiago de Veraguas and Los Santos, positively expect the construction of facilities for tourism development as well as the establishment of real estate companies to provide the sector a futuristic nuance. This touristic sanctuary is propitious for visitors, as it preserves countless stories and sites that date back to the beginning of its creation. Playa Leona is a coastal zone on the Pacific Coast of Panama in the community of La Mitra, on the southwestern district of La Chorrera. It approximately takes 30 minutes to get to Playa Leona from the center of La Chorrera.
