During the meeting, both parties agreed that the Panamanian representatives would be managing the entire process along with Copa Airlines executives in order to schedule a meeting and discuss the possibility of establishing a codeshare agreement. Both airlines, Copa Airlines and Airline Spanair, are owned by Star Alliance, which will facilitate negotiations between companies.
Up to now, Iberia is the only Spanish airline that flies to Panama. Air Europa Líneas Aéreas was interested in incorporating a flight frequency to Panama. The airline even signed an agreement with the Panamanian government, but the negotiations were not closed, and the Tourism Authority of Panama ended up strengthened the relationship with Iberia.
