The Panamanian President promises another hospital and more tourists to Bocas

After the booing he received at Finca 66, Changuinola, the Panamanian President, Ricardo Martinelli, did not address the demands from the banana workers asking for answers to their needs. On the contrary, he spoke about his promises to Bocas del Toro.

Martinelli said he will build a hospital on Isla Colon. He said that funds were already allocated for this hospital to be built as soon as possible.

“We must have medical specialists living here in Bocas del Toro, who can guarantee healthcare quality for the Panamanian people,” the president added.

The president also revealed that the Administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama, Salomón Shamah, told him that negotiations to construct a cruise ship port in Isla Colon are in their final stage.

He said that this port will bring more tourists to the area. He was confident in saying that with the improvements made to the sanitary sewer, airport, and drinking water in the area, “we will be able to receive the thousands of tourists who will come.”
