Although other nations are sending their best surfers to compete on the isthmus, Panama is not worried, let alone afraid, because it has its own expert wave tamers.

Miniature camels and horses, a rhinoceros and a giant bear-dog are among fossils unearthed in recent excavations as part of the Panama Canal expansion project. Funded by a five-year grant from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), these findings by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) shed light on events millions of years ago that altered the Earth’s climate and dramatically changed the geographic distribution of plants and animals.

The major specialty coffee producers in Panama will participate in the 17th international cupping event, "The Best of Panama 2013", to be held from May 6 to 8 in the town of Boquete, in the western province of Chiriquí, according to a source from the organizing group.

The waves off Venao Beach in the province of Los Santos will set the stage for the third phase of the Cerveza Soberana National Surfing Circuit this weekend.

One of the provinces with the biggest potential for tourism is Coclé, as it can offer everything from relaxing on beaches to hiking through mountains. These are the attractions that every day bring in thousands of tourists to the area. To meet the growing demand, the number of hotels and hostels has also increased in the region.

Coclé has 6 districts, of which Antón and Penonomé have seen the biggest boom and its tourism development is advancing by great strides.
