As part of the commemorative activities for the Fifth Centenary of the Discovery of the Pacific Ocean, Panama will give harbor to the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, recognized worldwide for its 80 years at sea and more than a million and a half nautical miles sailed across all the seas of the world.

The European Union donated $26 million towards conducting a feasibility study of the construction of a Central American railroad that would improve tourism and trade between the countries of the region, according to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen).
