Timothy Shriver Kennedy, president of the Special Olympics, praised the work that Yolanda Eleta de Varela and Latin American Special Olympics have done. 

Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos, at the close of the VI Summit of the Americas, confirmed that Panama City will host the next meeting of Latin American heads of state in 2015.
In a joyous parade with folk groups from the regions of Pedasi, Las Tablas, Guararé and Los Santos, marched the 30 teams participating in the International Surfing Association's Dakine World Junior Surfing Championship Venao Beach, Panama 2012.
The ISA World Junior brings together the best sub18 surfers in the world to compete for individual and national honor. Over 300 surfers will be fighting in all three divisions (Boys Sub 18, Boys Sub 16 and Girls  Sub 18) during eight days of competition at Venao Beach.

Currently, the first gate is 30% completed, five blocks are finished and ten are being manufactured. The first gate is expected to be finished this year. 

The third set of locks for the Panama Canal includes as a fundamental part the installation of sixteen gates, eight for the Pacific and the rest for the Atlantic, made of a total of 50,000 tons of steel.
