The Panama Jazz Festival 2012, which has among its international guests Chucho Valdés, Omara Portuondo, Charlie Sepúlveda, and Adalberto Santiago, among others, began on Monday with the performance of “Ensamble Juvenil”, a band integrated by young musicians.
The performance of the youth band, led by Panamanian Luis Carlos Pérez, who has been awarded the first scholarship by the Danilo Pérez Foundation, was held at the Athenaeum of Cuidad del Saber.
After the booing he received at Finca 66, Changuinola, the Panamanian President, Ricardo Martinelli, did not address the demands from the banana workers asking for answers to their needs. On the contrary, he spoke about his promises to Bocas del Toro.
Martinelli said he will build a hospital on Isla Colon. He said that funds were already allocated for this hospital to be built as soon as possible.
“We must have medical specialists living here in Bocas del Toro, who can guarantee healthcare quality for the Panamanian people,” the president added.
In order to develop the tourist areas of La Chorrera, a meeting will be held this Saturday morning, which seeks to completely clean up the Caimito River’s drainage basin, central point of the famous Chorro of La Chorrera.
The ambitious project also seeks to create a system which, at the same time, can be complemented with sports, historical, and cultural areas for the benefit of future generations.
The complex will be developed in a 300 hectare area, which was purchased by Tocumen, SA for $109 million.
After the completion of the North Pier, the next projects planned by Tocumen are the airport city “Aeropolis” and the South Dock and Terminal, valued at approximately $750 million.
The "Aeropolis" project, consisting of commercial, hotel, and hospital infrastructure, requires around $400 million, while the South Dock and Terminal project is expected to cost $350.
Although all the details of the "Aeropolis" project, which will be developed in the 300 hectares that Tocumen bought for $109 million from the University of Panama, are not yet known, the number of companies interested in setting up in the airport city increases each month.
