In order to promote and increase the logistics industry, as one of the engines of Panama’s socio-economic growth and to coordinate the logistics strategies together with the public sector, the most important unions in the private sector created the Business Logistics Council (COLE).

The council aims to improve responses to the specific needs of the sector and contribute to the vision of turning Panama into the worldwide maritime and logistics services platform.

The presence of the international chain Starwood Hotels, Resorts Worldwide has increased to six hotels in Panama, with the inauguration of Westin Playa Bonita on January 27, 2008. The Bolivian airline AeroSur announced that it will have three weekly flights to Panama City, starting on February 29, 2012; thereby new routes open up from Panama to South America, including major destinations such as Punta Cana, Sao Paulo, Miami, and Madrid.
