The province of Veraguas, located in the central territory of the country, is the only territory possessing coasts on two seas, the Caribbean and the Pacific. This territory is crossed by a mountain range that divides horizontally all the occidental part of Panama. Veraguas also possesses a mountain region with beautiful beatific scenery. The towns of San Francisco, Santa Fe and Calobre, all of them founded by the Spanish conquerors who were searching for more temperate climates, are located there. These first settlers founded in 1671 a small chapel built of rock and wood, known as “San Francisco de la Montaña”. This chapel still holds beautiful altars made of painted wood. At the same height of the mountain range is located Calobre, a small town settled within an area denominated as National Monument due to its thermal water springs of volcanic origins. To the North, close to the Caribbean coast is Santa Fe, founded in 1557, a bucolic town surrounded by pines, having fresh climate all year long.
