Las Macanas Marshes

The city of Chitré was founded on October 19, 1848, by the Provincial Chamber of Panama, who ruled that the parish district of Chitré, in the county of Los Santos, shall be founded as a separate entity from the district of Los Santos and consist of Chitré, Monagrillo and La Arena. It is known as "The city that grows by itself" and "The city where nobody is a stranger."
Its old quarter preserves a historic collection of houses, churches, plazas, avenues and parks, along with an important heritage of museums. Among the cultural events that they celebrate, highlights include Holy Week in Chitré, the St. John the Baptist patron saint festival and Carnival.
Mutis Port

Visitors can access the mangroves by boat and explore the splendid Pacific islands of this province. Since the twentieth century, this town has served as the main coastal shipping port of the southern coast of Veraguas. Many people and merchandise from all over arrived to Veraguas via Mutis Port.
It is believed that Mutis Port is named after one of the founders from the mother country (Spain). For many fishermen, it is their preferred place to bring their boats loaded with seafood; likewise for those living in communities on the islands around the gulf and other coastal areas.
For its inhabitants, it represents an economic hub for the tourism, industrial, fishing and agricultural activities that this port generates. This privileged coast is only 15 minutes from the city of Santiago de Veraguas, and is the launching point for a visit to the island of Coiba.
Gulf of Montijo
Published in VeraguasIt is predominantly tropical rainforest, but there are also grasslands, savannas, swamps and secondary vegetation. Mangrove forest predominates in the Gulf, with different representative species such as the red mangrove, black mangrove and white mangrove. The Gulf of Montijo Wetland of International Importance represents an important stop-over and nesting habitat for migratory birds. Among the birds that can be found, stand-outs include the Belted Kingfisher, raptors like the osprey and the hawk swamp, and exotic birds like the red-lored Amazon parrot.
Grain of Gold Island
Published in VeraguasGrain of Gold is a small island (islet) which is part of Coiba National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. It has become one of the most popular stops for visitors interested in sunbathing, diving in the abundant waters of this park or spending some time relaxing on one of the whitest beaches. Like its name says, it is a Grain of Gold, for the body and soul, right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Cébaco Island, located in the Gulf of Montijo, is the perfect spot to escape from the world and enjoy the incredible sound of silence that nature will provide. Cébaco is a peaceful place, with calm people and miles of pristine beaches.
During the months of September and October you will be able to sight whales and sea turtles. Only on this island will you find such different types of beaches, from peaceful to battered with strong waves (2 meters) perfect for surfing.
Cambutal Island
Published in Los SantosThis beach near Tonosí in the province of Los Santos, on the famous Azuero Peninsula, is ideal for surfers. The region is bounded by mountains, but it has its own jewel of the sea. "In Cambutal, there are several points where the wave breaks, and each one has a different name: there is '411', which breaks from right to left and runs at mid to high tide. There is also the 'dinosaur ', which has a reef bottom, and "short-circuit", known because in the summer at low tide it becomes a tubular wave."
Cane Island National Park
Published in Los SantosCane Island National Park in Panama is particularly significant for the two archaeological sites found in the area, which date back to over 1,600 years old.
The refuge also protects important mangrove ecosystems that provide habitat for different marine species. A picturesque fishing village located nearby offers their support to the staff of the National Environmental Authority (ANAM) to protect and manage the thousands of sea turtles that swim to its shores every year.
Uvertio Beach
Published in Los SantosUverito Beach in Las Tablas is a beach on the cornice of Panama's Pacific side. It is a family beach, with white sand and crystalline waters. The area has a high level of employment at the bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh fish.
The beach is named after the centennial sea grape tree, under which the joyous celebrations of Perote, the traditional festivity of Santo Domingo, were held.
Damas Beach
