Red Frog
Published in Bocas del toroRed Frog is one of the most popular beaches of Bocas del Toro, as it combines attractions that make it very special. The name of 'Red Frog' comes from the red-colored poisonous frogs, whose scientific name is Dendrobates pumilio, which inhabit the tropical forests surrounding the beach.
Besides the red frog, it is possible to observe sloths in the trees and various exotic birds. Given the beach's geographic layout, Red Frog is ideal for surfing the waves, which can reach four meters high, from December to March. At Red Frog you will find restaurants and bars, as well as hotels if you wish to spend the night.
Coral Key

Boca del Drago
Published in Bocas del toroIt was in this area where, 500 years ago, Columbus docked with the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Vast stretches of beautiful golden sand beaches are bathed in crystal clear waters that blend into the blue sky. Today, this region of the archipelago is a tourist attraction. Those who practice diving or snorkeling are also attracted by the coral reefs that lie beyond the beaches.
One attraction is The Grotto, just 15 minutes from the city of Bocas del Toro, where you can view its famous cave that houses three different species of bats. The area is a natural habitat for armadillos, sloths, various species of monkeys, iguanas and agoutis. Boca del Drago is considered the closest point of the archipelago to the mainland.
Bastimentos Island National Park
Published in Bocas del toroThe Bastimentos Island Marine National Park was created in 1998 and is a group of islands and islets spread out over 13,226 hectares. It is one of the few protected areas in Latin America that preserves beach, coral reef and mangrove ecosystems within the same space. Here you will find sea turtle nesting sites, coastal, island and marine ecosystem reserves, coral reefs, fantastic and scenic white sand beaches and ideal diving spots due to the crystal clear waters. It is home for manatees and over 200 species of tropical fish, and is a very important place for sea turtles to lay their eggs.
On the south coast of the island is the Admiral Lagoon, the only freshwater lagoon known in an island area of Panama, where there are numerous freshwater turtles. Countless canals wind through the mangrove islets, surrounded by coral and sandy bottoms covered with fields of seagrass. The park preserves the country's largest tract of Caribbean mangroves, along with the best preserved coral reefs on that coastline, dominated by red mangrove and white mangrove.
Cerro Punta
Published in ChiriquíLocated nearly 2,000 meters above sea level, in a valley surrounded by densely forested mountains, Cerro Punta is the city at the highest elevation of all of Panama, and is frequently engulfed in clouds. Since it was founded, agricultural production has expanded so rapidly that the region currently produces 80 percent of all vegetables consumed in the country.
Barú Volcano National Park
Published in ChiriquíBarú Volcano National Park enjoys a pleasant temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius, because of the elevation, but it can drop down to 0 degrees Celsius. A singular attraction of the Barú Volcano National Park is that from the summit both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea can be seen. It covers an area of 14,322 hectares and was created in 1976 in order to preserve its natural wealth and rich biodiversity.
The Barú Volcano reaches 3,475 meters above sea level. It is considered the highest point in the Republic of Panama.
According to scientific studies, its last eruption was more than 500 years ago, when it was calculated to have had a higher elevation, with snow on its summit. The last eruption was on the southwest-western side, and the melting of the snow causing the summit to collapse, unleashing a huge avalanche of mud and lava. It is now an inactive volcano.
The Barqueta Beach
Published in ChiriquíIt is a very well-known beach on the Panamanian Pacific, about 25 minutes southwest of the city of David and 35 minutes east of the Costa Rican border. La Barqueta Beach combines all the beauty and adventure of a long white-sand beach, with the convenience of staying at a resort or in the nearby city of David. La Barqueta Beach is surrounded by areas with high biodiversity and is commonly a turtle nesting area. In 1986 an Alanje Environmental Committee was formed, and along with residents in Guarumal they implemented some protection programs.
In 1994 a portion of this coastal area was designated to be La Barqueta Beach Wildlife Refuge, covering 5,935 hectares. Among the landscapes of grasslands and bush savannah forests, the thick mangroves stand out, which reproduce part of the ecological wealth that sustains the fishing villages of the Chiriquí Pacific.
Boquete is an attractive region located in the highlands of the Chiriquí province. It is a charming valley with such tourist sites as the city of Boquete, Bajo Boquete, Los Naranjos, Caldera and Palmira.

Colon Island
