Starwood Hotels is growing in Latin America with the second Westin in Panama

Accelerating the growth of its portfolio in Latin America, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced the opening of its second Westin hotel in Panama. Located on the Eastern Coast, the new business and financial center in Panama City, The Panama Westin is Starwood's third property, managed by Bern Hotels & Resorts, the biggest hotel developer and operator in Panama.

With the opening of The Westin Panama, the Starwood Hotels brand now has seven hotels in the country. Osvaldo Librizzi, co-president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in America, affirmed that “we are delighted to extend our partnership with Bern Hotels & Resorts and open another spectacular Westin hotel in Panama, the fastest growing market in Latin America and a strategic center for business.”

In recent years, Starwood has emerged as one of the leading global hotel companies in Panama, which is currently undergoing an influx of foreign investment and major infrastructure improvements, including the expansion of the Panama Canal.

The Westin Panama features 218 rooms, including 45 suites, world-class restaurants and 4,133 square meters available to hold meetings and events. The new hotel is a key element in the Eastern Coast financial center, which includes several luxury housing developments, numerous offices of multinational corporations and a boardwalk lined with shops and restaurants.

The Eastern Coast is just 15 minutes from downtown Panama City and less than 30 minutes from the Tocumen International Airport. “Global travelers now have the option of staying at Westin in more than one incredible location in Panama, as we continue to aggressively expand the brand across Latin America,” said Brian Povinelli, Global Brand Leader for Westin Hotels & Resorts.

The success of positioning and well-being as a distinction of the Westin brand has aroused a great interest among property owners and developers in many of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Starwood's portfolio in Latin America continues to expand

More than 2,500 rooms have been added over the last 24 months, representing a 20% increase after the opening of The Westin Panama. A major contributor to this growth, Westin has nearly doubled its portfolio in Latin America in just the last 18 months, as part of the brand's strategic expansion in emerging markets.

With the opening of The Westin Panama, Westin now has 12 hotels in five countries in Latin America: Panama, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica and Guatemala. Looking to open its 200th hotel in 2013, Westin will open the vast majority of its new hotels outside of North America.
