Book launch about Vasco Núñez de Balboa

A book that recounts the chronicles, travels and activities of Vasco Núñez de Balboa will be launched in Panama, as part of the celebratory activities of the V Centenary of the Discovery of the Pacific Ocean.

The book, written by the Spanish writer Luis Blas Aritio with María del Carmen Mena, who has a Ph.D. in history, and Omar Jaén Suárez, a Panamanian historian, as co-authors, divides Vasco Núñez de Balboa's life into three phases and covers the main aspects and activities of each.

The first phase of the book takes us into Núñez de Balboa's childhood, followed by his adventures and discoveries in the second stage, which leads up to his globally important discovery of a new ocean, in this case the Pacific Ocean, which changed the history of shipping, transportation and communication across the world.

The book launching ceremony will take place in Panama next Tuesday, February 26, and will be attended by the three co-authors of the book and the First Lady of the Republic, Marta de Martinelli, who is also the President of the Commission of the V Centenary of the Discovery of the Pacific Ocean.

In addition, figures from history, literature, publishing have also been invited, who will be the first to see the text in this book that commemorates the date when Panama became the "Crossroads of the World", after Vasco Núñez de Balboa became aware of the existence of the Pacific Ocean.
