Tourism in Panama maintains steady 3.5% growth

In the first two months of 2014, the tourism sector in Panama received a total of 455,640 visitors from the various ports of entry, representing a 3.5% increase over the same period last year and an additional 15,589 travelers.

Another positive feature of the statistical report for February from the Panama Tourism Authority and the Comptroller General is that the number of incoming passengers grew by 5.9% at Tocumen Airport, the site of 62.3% of total tourist arrivals.

Records show that 283,736 tourists entered the country through that airport, meaning 15,803 more people than last year.

Tourist spending was $597.3 million dollars, for a comparative growth of 8.1% over last year. Total hotel occupancy levels reached 60%, and cruises contributed 115,302 passengers and grew by 3.9%.
