Hotel industry is skyrocketing

As of February this year, hotel occupancy was at 60.9%, an encouraging figure that adds to the hotel construction projects underway in Panama.

This year Riu Playa Blanca began operations with 573 rooms, and at least another five new hotels are expected to open in the country.

By 2015 there will be 14 more, among them The Queen Hotel, Planet Hollywood, Crowne Plaza Panama Airport, and Embassy Suite.

Furthermore, the Ritz-Carlton chain has already announced the 2016 opening of its Pearl Island hotel.

The last census by the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) shows that the country has 627 hotels and lodging establishments, for a total of 21,937 rooms.

Another ATP report revealed that up through February some 312,572 visitors had entered the country by air and sea.
