Requesting a Tourist Visa to attend an event from abroad

If there is no Panamanian Consulate in your place of residence, the procedure to apply for a tourist visa to attend a congress or convention is the following:

The institution organizing the event will request that the invited participants guests scan and then e-mail them the documents required for the visa application. These documents will then be forwarded on to the Panamanian Foreign Ministry (Consular Department) with an official note from the organization authorizing the corresponding application.

If the passport is ordinary, the Foreign Ministry will send the documents to the National Immigration Service for their approval. Once the visa is authorized, Immigration will notify the sponsoring institution.

If the passports is for Diplomat, Consular, Officer, Special or Service, the Foreign Ministry will process the request and notify the sponsoring institution once the visa is authorized, indicating that the person's passport will be stamped with the visa upon arrival to Panama.

The organizing institution will be required to send an official note to the invited participant, written in that person's language, reporting the visa authorization and enclosing the approval letter issued by the agency, whether Immigration or Foreign Ministry.

The invited participant must bring these two official notes when traveling to Panama and present them at the airline check-in counter to be allowed to board the plane. On arrival, this documentation must also be shown to the Immigration officer in the airport.

Within the agency or institution, a contact person must be selected who will release his/her contact information (name, email, phone) and have the following responsibilities:

  • - Send the visa requests of the invited participants residing in countries without a Panamanian Consulate to the Consular Department of the Panamanian Foreign Ministry.
  • - Receive the approved visa notification for these invited participants from the Immigration Department and the Foreign Ministry.
  • - Act on behalf of the organization in any communication between the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry or the Immigration Department and the agency or institution.

If the invited participant submits the visa application in a Panamanian Consulate, it will be processed as instructed by the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry. It is important to note that the invited participant will be able to communicate with the Panamanian Consulate, or if unavailable with the chosen contact person from the event organizing institution, to conduct the approval process in the most orderly and efficient way possible.
