Every yearthe bike company Bicicletas Rali, through the Club Rali, organizes the most enigmatic cycling event in the country, the Ocean to Ocean. More than 2,000 cyclists will be participating in the race to cross from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal this year, we wanted to take the event to whole other level and turn it into a Gran Fondo of international biking, providing local and foreign bikers with a world-class cycling experience in Panama.
To do so, just like for music concerts, we'll be bringing in some famous stars of the biking world, like the great Italian champion Mario Cipollini and the Spaniard Oscar Sevilla, among other cycling celebrities.
Cyclists will be able to choose between two exciting routes that run along the beautiful and challenging landscapes of the canal basin.
Gran Fondo 130km Ocean to Ocean
The most challenging and longest route of the two features the hilly terrain of the canal banks and will cross over two bridges by the Panama Canal. This route is geared for more experienced cyclists.
Medio Fondo 86km Ocean to Ocean
The Medio Fondo race course offers the same scenery and topography as the Gran Fondo, but in a slightly shorter route. It will also take racers past both the Pedro Miguel and Miraflores canal locks.
